To Ancient Greeks the sea sponge was known as a 'Zoofitan';
a unique category, meaning half plant/half animal.

Today many zoologists classify sea sponges in an animal sub-kingdom, due to their hermaphroditic ability to reproduce.

However, they are distinct from any other animal species because of their ability to also asexually reproduce and to regenerate from a single cell.

The sponge has neither brain nor central nervous system and maintains many plant like qualities.

There are 5000 types of Natural Sea Sponges known to man, only 7 of which are currently commercially traded.

Sea sponges big enough to use for bathing take from 2-20 years to grow, depending on their size.

Because sea sponges are picked straight from the ocean bed their collection in the past has raised concerns for the environment
( people often mistake the sea sponge for coral).

Due to the nature of our business these environmental issues are of grate importance to us.

We are committed to the protection of the ecosystem surrounding the sea beds in which our sponges are harvested.

It is both in our interest ethically and commercially to ensure that there will be more sponges in the future than there are today.

We promise that...

All our divers are registered fishermen who are closely monitored by us;

Although sea sponges have the ability to regenerate themselves, even from the smallest fragment;

Our divers leave the "Roots" of every sponge intact to ensure proper farming harvesting;

Our individually harvested sea sponges are inspected by the relevant Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, and certified for export;

We directly import raw sponges, and process them here in the UK;

Each of the 42 stages of processing is done by hand in the UK;;

All materials used in packaging and processing are recycled and are recyclable;

Sea Sponges are hypo-allergenic and 100% biodegradable.

Sponges can be packed individually in our standard cellophane packaging, or in a variety of boxes
with our logo
and care card or as multi-pack gift sets.
